Planning a Wedding in Austin

One of the fastest growing cities in the United States, Austin is a popular destination not only for artists and businessmen, but for tourists and weddings as well. The beautiful warm weather starts in March where daily highs are about 71F and continues in to November. There’s usually a low chance of precipitation as well, so you are likely to have sun on your special day.

If you are looking for a traditional wedding at a church, there are many churches in the Austin area that offer services. Just make sure you contact the church well in advance to make sure your date is available and you have all the paperwork you require for the ceremony. Also, most churches don’t ask for a set rate, but ask for a donation.

The Old Pecan-Street Cafe is very popular amongst couples that are having a small wedding. While the Trinity Room is one of the most popular rooms booked (accommodates 50 people), the cafe offers four different rooms, able to accommodate parties of all sizes. Be sure to reserve well ahead of time due to popularity, which may be in part due to the fact that all of their venue spaces are so affordable.

For couples who have a much larger wedding to accommodate, the Scottish Rite Theater is very popular. With an on-site kitchen and dining room, the theater isn’t just popular for stage performances and musicians. This venue is ideal if couples are looking for lots of room and a unique take on a reception hall. There is plenty of room for you to do things like use sparklers for weddings or other activities that require a lot of room which is a really big bonus.

How about some spots to take photos? If you hire a local photographer (recommended), they’ll know just the spots to go and whether or not there is a charge or permit required. Mayfield Park is a free location that offers stone walls and fish ponds to serve as backdrops. The Capitol grounds are another spot that are usually pretty desolate on the weekend (especially the rear of the building) so you don’t have random people in the background of photos. There is also the Zilker Botanical Gardens, but this requires a fee for use. There are many locations in and around Austin to choose from; trust your photographer to pick the best for you.
